Eco-Project Friday!!!
Friday, May 30, 2008

We are going to start a new fun feature called Eco-Project! Every Friday we will be featuring eco-projects for adults and kids to try over the weekend. If you are a parent and know of a fun, eco-friendly project or arts and crafts activity, please e-mail me at cameo@sweetiepiebaby.com and we will feature it one Friday.

For today, we are going to Recycle Wall Decor!! This comes from National Geographic.com

Materials needed

Leftover Wrapping Paper
Clear, repositionable contact paper

Instructions

1. Get parent's permission to stick things on the wall. Cut different shapes out of wrapping paper. Use wrapping paper that you have leftover from other occasions and that matches with your room decor. Get creative with your shapes.

2. Peel the backing off of the contact paper, and then stick the design side of the wrapping paper to the sticky side of the contact paper. Restick the backing onto the contact paper.

3. Cut out each decal, leaving a quarter-inch border of contact paper around it. Stick the decals to the wall. Now enjoy your new decor!

Small Steps can make a big difference
Sunday, May 18, 2008
One small step can make a huge difference in the "go green" initiative. The next time you decide to go out on a shopping trip, take a couple of reusable shopping bags rather than getting your items bagged in plastic.

The Environmental Protection Agency reported that in 2001, somewhere between 500 billion and a trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide each year. Of those, millions end up end up in the litter stream outside of landfills.

Once in the environment, these plastic bags can take months to hundreds of years to breakdown. Also, as they decompose, tiny toxic bits seep into the lakes, rivers, oceans, and soils.

Many retailers are now offering reusable shopping totes for sale. I have seen them priced anywhere from 1-4 dollars. Also, some of the retailers have committed to donating a portion of the proceeds from these sales to organizations and foundations dedicated to protecting our environment.

Small steps can make a huge difference!!!

Pregnancy Awareness Month
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
Did you know that May is Pregnancy Awareness Month? Yeah, well I didn't either. While on my daily search for information that could benefit my readers, I came across the Pregnancy Awareness Month Page.

Declared and founded by holistic lifestyle expert, Anna Getty, May 2008 marks the inaugural year of Pregnancy Awareness Month (PAM). Anna's aim is to empower women with information, ideas, and inspiration to incorporate her four key initiatives - education, exercise, nutrition & wellness, and nurture - into their daily routines. She also wants to show women how easy it can be making healthier living choices for their families.

Pregnancy Awareness Month (PAM) features sponsors such as 7th Generation, Svan of Sweden, G-diapers, Plum Organics, Cariboo, MobyWrap, and more!!! Visit their page to get a wealth of information on this much needed initiative today!

Sweetie Pie commends Anna Getty for her dedication to helping women live healthy for their families and the environment!

7th Generation Diapers
Although I support cloth diapering 100%, I haven't had much success incorporating it into my lifestyle. Therefore, I have been on the search for a reasonable Eco-friendly alternative. Last week I came across the 7th Generation Chlorine-Free Diapers. These diapers are fragrance and latex free and the absorbent polymer is non-toxic and non-irritating to your baby's sensitive skin.

I wanted to use them for a full week before giving my review on them and I have to say that I give them two thumbs up. Not only are these diapers unbelievably soft, they are also super absorbent. I am very impressed with the quality of these diapers, and feel good knowing they are an Eco-friendly alternative. I suggest that you all give them a try and let me know what you think.

As an added bonus....register at 7th Generation online and print out coupons you can use on your first purchase. A 40 diaper pack runs about $11.00. I registered and received a $2.00 coupon. Can't beat that!
